‘USA Today’ voters place two Ohio races as best, second

A pair of Ohio races was recently named the country’s best marathon and second-best half marathon in the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice awards.

Cincinnati’s Flying Pig Marathon was named the country’s best in the 2024 USA Today Readers’ Choice Awards, and Columbus’ own OhioHealth Capital City Half & Quarter Marathon was tapped as the second best half marathon in the country by the awards.

A panel of expert runners nominated different races from across the country, and USA Today Readers voted in each category. The Columbus race was only beat out by the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, which is held in Indianapolis.

“Called the ‘best tour of Columbus on two feet, you’ll get to see all the highlights of Ohio’s capital and tour its diverse neighborhoods as the half marathon winds its way through downtown,” USA Today writes about the Cap City Half Marathon. “Perhaps even better than the race itself is the finish line, where a party and post-race concert takes place, with bottles of Corona, margaritas, chicken wings, and pizza as just part of the festivities.”

This year, the Cap City Half Marathon will take place on April 27.
