FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COLUMBUS, OH - [March 10, 2025] – The OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon and HAAS Alert are partnering together on the inaugural First Responders Heroes Challenge powered by HAAS Alert at the 2025 OhioHealth Capital City Half & Quarter Marathon and Columbus Promise 5K on Saturday, April 26 in downtown Columbus.
The challenge invites all First Responders to celebrate and embrace a healthy, active lifestyle while fostering community engagement. While the top finishers of each distance will receive a prize sponsored by HAAS Alert, the challenge welcomes First Responders of all fitness levels and experiences.
“We are excited to announce this Challenge to celebrate and promote First Responders' health and wellness in the community,” says Race Director, David Babner. “We are grateful for the continued support from First Responders during our running and walking events and throughout our communities and we look forward to engaging and celebrating First Responders in an elevated way this year.”
The OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon has a long-standing partnership with the City of Columbus Department of Public Safety to produce one of the safest road races in the country. The Heroes Challenge will further encourage the First Responder community to live a healthy, active lifestyle both physically and mentally during this community event.
“Our First Responders- police, fire and 911- proudly serve this community every day,” said Columbus Public Safety Director Kate Pishotti. “Their physical and mental wellness is a top priority for the City of Columbus. We are thrilled that Cap City is recognizing their service with the Heroes Challenge.”
The partnership between the OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon and HAAS Alert also underscores the importance of roadside First Responder safety and driver awareness—a mission that resonates deeply with the running and walking community.
“We are proud to partner with OhioHealth Capital City for a great cause and to promote first responder health and wellness, as well as to raise awareness in the community about the importance of looking out for first responders on our roadways,“ said Cory Hohs, HAAS Alert CEO. “HAAS Alert’s mission is to make sure first responders go home safely at the end of every shift, so if we can promote the importance of slowing down and moving over for those who serve and protect, we’ll run to that any day.”
Registration is currently open for the Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon and 5K at CapitalCityHalfMarathon.com. Participants can indicate if they are a First Responder and join the challenge during the registration process.
