Main Street Bridge

COLUMBUS, Ohio (January 24, 2014) — With an improved half-marathon course that takes participants over the Main Street Bridge for the first time in a major road race, the Capital City Half Marathon Presented By KeyBank will grow to a record 14,500 runners and walkers and expected to be sold out for the fourth straight year when the 11th annual event is held May 3, 2014.

The last five miles of the Capital City Half Marathon has been revamped, with participants going through German Village on Third Street and High Street before going over the Main Street Bridge and around the COSI Columbus, the city's nationally known science museum, before finishing once again at Columbus Commons.

The new route provides a tour of the Scioto Mile, one of downtown Columbus' new signature parks. The Scioto Mile runs along the Scioto River, which will soon gain 33 acres as part of the Scioto Greenways Project that will restore the river's natural course.

The Main Street Bridge is the first bridge in North America and the fifth in the world to use an inclined arch design. The bridge quickly became one of the city's top landmarks when it opened in 2010.

“The original vision of the Capital City Half Marathon was to provide the 'best tour of Columbus on two feet,' and that tour now includes the Main Street Bridge, the Scioto Mile and the entire Scioto Peninsula,” Race Director David Babner said. “Cap City is often a participant's first time in Columbus and we want our courses to showcase the best the city has to offer.”

The courses for the Patrón Quarter Marathon and the Commit To Be Fit 5K are completely new, with the Quarter Marathon course highlighting Victorian Village, the Short North and Downtown. The 5K course features a loop through downtown on Front, High and Fourth streets.

The Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon and 5K will all once again finish in the Columbus Commons, the city's other downtown signature park. The finish will feature the Byers Xtra Mile Finish Line Party and Michelob Ultra Post-Race Concert. Participants will celebrate with complimentary Yellow Tail Sparking Wine, complimentary Michelob Ultra and much more at the finish.

The Capital City Half Marathon, which will host the USATF Half Marathon Championships in 2016 & 2017, was recently named the “Best Half Marathon In Ohio” by DailyBurn.com, a popular Web site that provides workout and nutrition information to 2.5 million members.
