Mayor Michael B. Coleman, who has served as Columbus mayor since 2000 and has been a staunch supporter since the beginning of the Capital City Half Marathon, served as Honorary Race Director of the 10th Anniversary Edition of the Capital City Half Marathon.

Coleman's support in the early planning of the Capital City Half Marathon played a key role in the establishment of the race in 2004 and his support over the past 10 years has helped the race grow from 3,000 runners and walkers in its first year to more than 14,000 in its 10th year.

“Mayor Coleman has been a tremendous supporter of the Capital City Half Marathon for the past 10 years and we are proud that he will be the Honorary Race Director as we celebrate our 10th Anniversary,” race director David Babner said. “We would not have been able to start this event, much less grow into one of the largest half marathons in the Midwest, without the unbridled support of Mayor Coleman and all city departments and staff, including Police and Fire and Recreation and Parks.”

In 2001, Coleman established the Capital Kids After School Program that provides after-school care and education for children at four Columbus Recreation Centers. The program has served more than 700 children in the past 13 years.

The Capital Kids After School Program has been the beneficiary of Cap City's Mascot Chase since its inception in 2004. (The Mascot Chase was known as the Capital Kids Field Days in 2013). Capital Kids participants also participate in the Be A Champion Youth Training Program and are the beneficiary of the newly established Be A Genius Scholarship Program.

Coleman hosted the Mayor's VIP Reception at the Health & Fitness Expo and served as the Honorary Starter of the 10th Anniversary Edition of the Capital City Half Marathon on Race Day. He also walked with Capital Kids as they completed the annual Be A Champion Youth Training Program on Race Day.
