KeyBank, Cap City Partner to Promote Fitness
Cleveland-Based Bank Signs Three-Year Deal to be Presenting Sponsor of Capital City Half Marathon
March 13, 2012, COLUMBUS, Ohio — KeyBank, a Cleveland-based bank with a large presence in Central Ohio, has signed a three-year deal to be the presenting sponsor of the Capital City Half Marathon.
The event, in its ninth year, will be known as the Capital City Half Marathon Presented By KeyBank.
“We are proud that KeyBank has come on board to help us promote a healthy and active lifestyle through the promotion of the Capital City Half Marathon,” race director David Babner said. “The Capital City Half Marathon has grown to become one of our community's signature spring events, and this partnership will allow it to grow even bigger and better over the next three years.”
The agreement is the first major sports sponsorship in Columbus for KeyBank, which also sponsors the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Cavaliers and the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, among others.
“It is a terrific event that is extraordinarily well-run and shows consistent growth,” said Melissa Ingwersen, president of KeyBank's Central Ohio district. “We look forward to working with the Capital City Half Marathon to promote fiscal fitness as well as physical fitness to clients, our employees and race participants.”
KeyBank joins a list of corporate sponsors that also includes OhioHealth, Byers Imports, Marathon Petroleum, Diamond Cellar, Yellow Tail Bubbles, Tequila Patrón, Panera Bread and Michelob Ultra.
This year's Capital City Half Marathon, Patrón Quarter Marathon and Commit To Be Fit 5K wll be held on May 5, 2012. The races will start at the Scioto Miles and finish at Columbus Commons, which will host the Byers Xtra Mile Finish Line Party and Michelob Ultra Post-Race Concert. The Capital City OhioHealth Health & Fitness Expo Party will be held May 2-3 at Battelle Grand.
“We will celebrate the Columbus Bicentennial in 2012 by featuring a new race course that will take our runners and walkers on the best tour of Columbus on two feet,” Babner said. “And then after the race we will celebrate as a group with Yellow Tail Bubbles Sparking Wine & Maramor Chocolate at the best post-race party in the nation in the Columbus Commons.”
The Capital City Half Marathon, founded in 2004 and produced by M3S Sports, has grown into one of the largest half marathons in the Midwest. The race weekend will generate an estimated $5 million in visitor spending when the Capital City Half Marathon and related events take place in Columbus May 3–5, 2012.
