10TV's Andrea Cambern to Serve as Honorary Race Director of Bicentennial Edition of Capital City Half Marathon

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Andrea Cambern, a television personality for more than 20 years at WBNS-TV (Channel 10) and the driving force behind the station's Commit To Be Fit initiative, has been named honorary race director of the 2012 Capital City Half Marathon.

Cambern, who has been on the air at WBNS since 1991, recently announced that she will step down from her duties after 20 years. She has played an instrumental role in the development of the Capital City Half Marathon since its inaugural event in 2004.

Cap City's accompanying 5-kilometer race has been known as the Commit To Be Fit 5K since its inception, and Cambern's dedication to promoting the 5K, half marathon and other events have helped grow Cap City from 3,000 runners and walkers in its first year to an expected 13,000 in 2012.

“Andrea has been a tremendous supporter of the Capital City Half Marathon for the past nine years and we are proud that she will serve as honorary race director in 2012,” race director David Babner said. “We would not have grown into one of the largest half marathons in the Midwest over the past several years without the unbridled support of champions like Andrea and the entire Commit To Be Fit movement.”

In 2012, Cambern will again serve as spokeswoman for the Commit To Be Fit 5K, which is expected to have record participation due in part to a new partnership between 10TV, Commit To Be Fit and Giant Eagle that will encourage 10TV viewers to commit to running or walking the 3.1-mile race for the first time. Cambern will also emcee the Panel of Champions presentation on Thursday, May 3 at the Champions VIP Reception and serve as honorary starter on May 5 before joining the field in the Half Marathon.

The 2012 Capital City Half Marathon will again feature four events: the Capital City Half Marathon (13.1 miles), the Capital City Quarter Marathon (6.55 miles), the Commit To Be Fit 5k (3.1 miles) and the Capital Kids Mascot Chase. The races will begin at the Scioto Mile and end at the Columbus Commons.

“The Capital City Half Marathon has always been about the celebration, and in 2012 we are going to celebrate our participants and the Columbus Bicentennial,” race director David Babner said. “We are proud to start at the Scioto Mile, finish at Columbus Commons and showcase all of Columbus throughout the 13.1-mile course before finishing with a party fitting of Columbus' 200th Birthday.”
