Hall, Rothstein-Bruce Appear in Columbus to Celebrate Women's Running

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Sara Hall and Stephanie Rothstein-Bruce, two of the biggest American stars in women's endurance running, appeared at a community breakfast in Columbus on Feb. 10 that highlighted the OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon hosting the USATF Half Marathon Championships in 2016 & 2017.

Hall and Rothstein-Bruce appeared at the Greater Columbus Sports Commission's 5th Annual Women's Sports Report Presented By OhioHealth. More than 800 business and community leaders attended.

The annual Women's Sports Report celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day and Columbus' growing stature as a top destination for women and girls sporting events.

Hall, 31, finished fourth at the 2015 USATF Half Marathon Championships in Houston in January and just announced she will make her marathon debut at the 2015 L.A. Marathon on March 15. Hall won a gold medal at the 2011 Pan American Games and was the U.S. National Cross Country Championships in 2012. She is married to world-class runner Ryan Hall, the U.S. record holder in the half marathon (59:43).

"I love the celebratory vibe of the Capital City Half Marathon," said Hall, who was in Columbus three days after finishing fifth at the U.S. Cross Country National Championships.

Rothstein-Bruce, 30, took the first half of 2014 off to have her first child and continues to work herself back into form. She won the 2013 PF Chang's Half Marathon and the 2012 Big Sur Half Marathon. Rothstein-Bruce finished fourth at the 2013 USATF Half Marathon Championships and was runner-up at the 2010 U.S. 20K Championships. Her husband, Ben, is an elite marathoner who won five Rock 'N Roll marathons in 2014.

"If a city wins the bid to host one of our national championships, it is a big deal," Rothstein said.

Hall and Rothstein-Bruce were in Columbus to promote the OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon hosting the Men's and Women's USA Half Marathon Championship in 2016 and 2017. The 2015 USATF Half Marathon Championships will be held Saturday, April 30 as part of the Capital City Half Marathon and will attract up to 200 of the nation's best long-distance runners.

“We were honored to host Sara and Stephanie and begin to shine the spotlight on our nation's top endurance athletes,” said David Babner, race director of the Capital City Half Marathon and the 2016-17 USATF Half Marathon Championships. “The Morning Sports Report served as the kick-off of our celebration and promotion of bringing the nation's best runners and the USATF Half Marathon Championships to Columbus.”
