Cap City's David Babner Named To Greater Columbus Sports Commission's Board of Commissioners

David Babner, race director of the Capital City Half Marathon and founder of M3S Sports, has been named to the Board of Commissioners of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission.

M3S Sports produces 11 running, walking and multisport events, including Cap City, which has experience 345 percent growth since its inaugural running in 2004 and had a record field of 13,000 runners and walkers in 2012. The spring race will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2013.

The Capital City Half Marathon and M3S Sports partner with the Greater Columbus Sports Commission in the promotion of all its events and in the promotion of Columbus as a sports destination. Cap City was also among the first events to brace the 200Columbus Bicentennial Celebration when it unveiled is Bicentennial Edition logo in May 2011 that prominently featured the 200Columbus logo.

The Board of Commissioners represents Columbus business and sports interests and oversees policy and funding for the Greater Columbus Sports Commission. The board chair is Brian Ellis of Nationwide Realty.

Babner, who founded M3S Sports in 2002, was nominated as the National Race Director of the Year by Road Race Management in 2011.

In 2011, Mayor Michael B. Coleman awarded Babner an “Angel in the Community” award for the creation and development of the “Be A Champion Youth Training Program” that encourages Columbus youth to participate in a healthy, active lifestyle. The Mayor's Capital Kids Afterschool Program has been a beneficiary of Cap City since 2004.

In addition to Cap City, M3S Sports also produces the Emerald City Half Marathon in Dublin; the Arizona Distance Classic in Tucson, Ariz.; the Giant Eagle Multisport Festival in Columbus; the Flying Feather Four Miler in Dublin, and six other road races in Central Ohio.

The Emerald City Half and Quarter Marathon received the “Living The Irish Attitude” Award in 2011 from the Dublin Convention & Visitors Bureau for a local event that “embraces Dublin's destination brand and slogan: ‘Dublin, Ohio — Irish is an Attitude.’”

Babner and his wife, Natalie, have four children between them, Max, Nate, Luke and Nick, and reside in Dublin, Ohio.
